TBOC is a strategy for sustainable change to take back our city! TBOC is a solution-oriented campaign that outlines a multi-issue progressive legislative and policy platform for New York City. Initially devised in 2009, by Candidate for City Council and Harlem activist-parent Monique Ndigo Washington as a result of her work with the Coalition to Save Harlem’s efforts to challenge Mayor Bloomberg’s proposal to rezone 125th Street. TBOC is an effort to shift power to community boards and hold elected officials accountable.
TBOC has four main goals:
- Support legislation that grants power for community boards to vote on land use and zoning proposals;
- Support legislation to “recall” elected officials on a local level who continue to promote their own interest as opposed to their constituents;
- Provide a progressive legislative and policy agenda directed by grassroots organizations and coalition
- Engage progressive City Council candidates to endorse this campaign for their bid for election in 2013
